SDS ProVal - Practical Development Workshop

Course Information

This workshop is a practical exercise in appraising a real site using SDS ProVal.  Training in ProVal typically uses abstract data and imaginary schemes. This workshop is based on a real site with real development problems.

Delegates will work in teams and make their own decisions.

Pre-requisites

Those attending this course should have a basic understanding of development and of SDS ProVal, and be comfortable with using a mouse.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Understand how to appraise a site
  • Critically appraise architects’ plans
  • Understand issues surrounding development
  • Basic understanding of the key appraisal outputs
  • Optimise the unit mix on a site

Agenda:

  • Introduction
  • Identify problems and assess development issues. 
  • Create a real layout and then appraise it using SDS ProVal. 
  • Learn about mix optimisation and ways of making the scheme work, as well as the constraits upon RSLs when appraising schemes. 
  • Review OS plan and site photos - identify development issues, abnormal costs, etc. 
  •  Local Authority dimension - what questions to ask the LA, what information to expect
  •  Marketing - what information to ask, what information to get, how to do a sales survey
  •  Layout exercise
  •  Appraise the layout in ProVal - discuss viability criteria
  •  Seminar talk on mix optimisation
  •  Optimisation exercise in ProVal
  •  Update layouts
  •  Create final appraisal in ProVal
  •  Feedback to group on the results
