Course Information

This half-day course is designed to introduce delegates to the structure of a database and the reasons for using a database and the principles of report design.

Delegates will be able to recognise the uses for a database and the concepts of database design. Delegates will be able to produce a simple report and utilise the query facilities.

Pre-requisites

Those attending this course should have a basic understanding of the SDS Sequel environment and be comfortable with using a mouse.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Recognise the advantages of storing information in a relational database
  • Create simple queries
  • Explore relationships between tables to build more complex queries
  • Filter queries to customise the results
  • Produce simple tabular reports
  • Understand how to group fields in a report
  • Produce hierarchical reports with grouping
  • Understand how to style and format the report
  • Export the report in different formats, e.g. Excel
